One of DC longest-serving heroes, Aquaman has been a bastion of the DC Comics universe since its inception, although like many of the Big 7, he's mostly become a big shot since the dawn of the Silver Age.
Also like many of the Big 7, Aquaman's been pretty severely dicked around with in the last 60 years. Retconned more than should be regarded as humanly possible, he's been a human, a halfbreed merman, the son of a wizard, a king, an outlaw, and an amputee, most recently being replaced by a different, but strangely similar replacement. You'd think fifteen years of broken Green Lantern franchises would teach DC an important lesson, but I guess you'd be wrong...
