Scipio, this one's for you!
Justice League of America #258 was the first issue of JLA I ever read. In this issue, Vibe, Latin American breakdancing master of sound, was punched out the the Elongated Man, was unfairly compared to a vibrator, slagged off the Martian Manhunter's skin colour, and was throttled by Amazo. Not his finest hour, then.
Vibe was part of the Justice League Detroit, a somewhat less than glorious incarnation of the League, which lasted a couple of years in the mid-80s, before being swept aside to make way for the Bwah-Ha-Ha League. As a supporter of the Giffen / DeMatteis era, I can't say this particularly disappointed me, but as Scipio has made clear time and time again, not everyone feels as blasé about Vibe's death as I do. Only time will tell which of us will be vindicated...
